Nicole, it is not often I can teach a French person something! Your suggestion of a vine is spot on, there is on eplanted in the front right hand corner, you can see it just above Peter and Dianne's heads!

Hi Bruce,
As usual we were watching "Questions pour un champion" last night, with subtitles for the slow of hearing. When the question was launched "Give the name of a big bird cage in a garden", we bothe shouted "Volière", which was also the first answer of one of the candidates. The correct answer was however "Gloriette".
French Wikipedia says:
"Aujourd’hui, ce terme désigne aussi bien un petit pavillon de jardin qu’une grande cage à oiseaux[1]. Les deux objets ont la même forme. La gloriette est souvent en fer forgé et, rarement, en bois."
If you ever feel the need to start an avaiary, you are already half way there!

Now that is very interesting Cees, merci beaucoup. The subtleties of the French language remain very challenging - comme habitude!!
